7 Everyday Hygiene Habits That Make a Real Difference

Hygiene isn't about the dramatic gestures — it's the small, repeated choices that build comfort over time. Here are seven habits worth keeping.

1. Wash your hands properly, not just often

Twenty seconds. Warm water. Under the nails, between the fingers, around the wrists. The CDC has been clear on this for decades, but most of us short-cut it.

2. Use a pH-balanced intimate wash

Your intimate area sits between pH 3.8 and 4.5 — significantly more acidic than the rest of your body. Regular soap strips that balance and invites irritation. A purpose-made wash (look for "soap-free" and "pH 4.5–5.5") keeps things steady.

3. Change underwear daily, and let cotton win

Synthetic fabrics trap moisture. Cotton breathes. For everyday wear, especially in Accra's heat, cotton briefs are the default for a reason.

4. Don't overlook your hands when you're out

Restrooms, ride-shares, ATMs, market stalls. A pocket sanitiser isn't paranoid — it's the same logic as wearing a seatbelt.

5. Replace your toothbrush every 3 months

Bristles fray. Bacteria accumulate. After an illness, replace immediately.

6. Wash gym wear after every session

Sweat-soaked fabric is a breeding ground. Wash, don't just air-dry.

7. Sleep on a clean pillowcase

Twice a week minimum. Your face spends a third of every day pressed against it.

None of these are revelations. They're reminders. Stack them, and "feeling fresh" stops being something you have to think about.
